Lee University’s School of Music will hold a workshop on Saturday, Dec. 18, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for high school students preparing to audition for the 2021-2022 All-State East Senior Clinic Bands as part of the East Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association.

During the workshop, students from grades 9 to 12 will gather to receive practical tips from professional musicians from the SOM. Sessions will address etudes, scales, and sight-reading, as well as audition strategies such as how to warm up and deal with nerves. Participants should bring their instruments and music.

“Auditioning for All-East is a big deal,” said Dr. Brian Reichenbach, assistant professor of trumpet at Lee. These students are stepping up to the challenge in order to play with some of the best musicians in the area, and as one of the top music programs in east Tennessee, we’re offering them an opportunity to further hone their audition skills and learn from our outstanding School of Music faculty alongside students from other high schools.”

To participate, students must register by Saturday, Dec. 11. The cost is $10, and lunch is provided. Any student is welcome, even if they are not auditioning.
