Longtime Hamilton County Schools Secretary Loved The Outdoors And Gardening

Barbara Kate Tankersley Gibson, 89, of Hixson, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 6, 2021. She will be greatly missed by her loving and devoted family.
 
She loved the outdoors, and always had a passion for gardening and growing her beautiful flowers. Barbara enjoyed her outdoor activities with her precious kitty, Sookie. 
 
Barbara was retired from Hamilton County Department of Education where she worked from many years as a school secretary. 
 
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, James Howard Gibson; parents, Oscar C. Tankersley and Laura Victoria Bell Tankersley; brother, Cecil Tankersley; sisters, Nellie Brown, Elsie Ashcraft, Clara Ruth Mountain, and Audrey Messer.   
 
Barbara is survived by her only daughter, Sherry Gibson Clark (Greg Clark); her only granddaughter, Whitney Clark Hester (Brinton Hester); sister, Doris Devine; several nieces and nephews; special niece, Pat Fritz and her family Laura Bandy (Ryan Bandy), Tara Woodroof (Chad Woodroof), and Barbara’s much loved great great niece and great great nephew, Emma and Carson Woodroof. 
 
The family would like to express our love and thanks to the staff of Morning Pointe, Hixson, for the loving and compassionate care shown to Barbara and our family over the past three years.  Special thanks also to Kindred Hospice, and Preferred Care at Home of Chattanooga for providing exceptional caregivers in Barbara’s final days.   
 
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
 
Graveside services for Barbara will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
