Carson-Newman put runs on the board in every inning but one in recording a 12-6 victory over the Lee baseball team on Wednesday afternoon. The Flames put a single run on the board in the first inning and never led again in suffering their first loss of the season to go along with five victories. The Eagles improved to 4-1.

The non-conference affair saw the Eagles bang out 16 hits against seven Lee pitchers. On the other hand, Carson-Newman also sent six hurlers to the mound. Greyson Linderman worked 0.2 innings and was charged with the defeat.
He surrendered three hits, three earned runs and walked one. The Eagles Kyle Cagle also worked 0.2 innings. He was credited with the victory and did not allow a hit while striking out one.

"When you only get one shutout inning all day it's always going to be difficult to win. Our hats are off to Carson Newman. They came up with two-strike, two-out hits all day and we couldn't get off the field," noted Lee coach Mark Brew.

Lee had four extra-base hits in the loss. Ryan Beamish blasted his fourth homer of the year and collected four RBI. Landon Silver unloaded his second homer of the season and finished with a pair of RBI. Luke Hughes and Brandon Daniels doubled for the Flames. Hughes also scored a run. Colton Yeager was 2-for-2 with a run scored. Alan Smith had two hits and a run. Dylan Standifer had two hits as the middle of the Lee batting order posted eight of their 12 hits.

"It's still early, but we need to do a better job of fighting at the plate. Fifteen strikeouts are way too many and we need to get a little more aggressive earlier in the count," added Brew.

The Eagles were led by Matt Parkinson, who homered, drove in three runs with three hits and scored three times. Tyler Thompson ripped a home run and from the lead-off spot, he finished with three hits, three RBI and scored a pair of runs. Zach Boze doubled to go along with two singles, two RBI and two scores. Henry Jackson and Andrew Carpenter had two-base knocks for the Eagles.

"We will turn our focus to another big weekend with Christian Brothers. Playing them at home and being the visiting team will be odd, but we are glad to have the opportunity to play," concluded Brew. The GSC series was originally scheduled for Memphis this weekend but was moved because of the snow and ice in the western part of the state.
