Mavis Laverne Dallis was born on June 6, 1932, to her lovely parents, Robert, and Viola Starr Young, who preceded her in death. She was called to rest with her personal Savior on March 14, 2021.

She began her spiritual journey at Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church. She was an active member until physical constraints prevented her attendance at church. Mavis attended Chattanooga public schools and graduated from Howard High in 1952. She also graduated from Morristown College in 1954.

After graduation, she returned to Chattanooga to enter the workforce. Mavis worked as a substitute teacher at Booker T. Washington High School. In 1963, Mavis married George Charlie Dallis. During this union of marriage, one daughter was born, LaCretia Eileene Dallis.  Years later, Mavis decided to return to college and complete her education degree. She graduated from Tennessee State University in 1982. She was an educator in the Chattanooga public schools until her retirement on June 12, 1992. After retirement, she substituted for many years until her health prevented her from working.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1990; parents; brothers, Robert Young, Jr., and William Young; sister, Helen Edith Young.

She leaves to cherish her memories, daughter, LaCretia Eileene Dallas (Roosevelt Jude), of Chattanooga; nephew/son, Carl (Barbara) Young; adopted granddaughter, Kielisha Delaney, North Carolina; adopted great-granddaughter, Tylisha Moss, North Carolina; cousin and friend, Berlean Henderson (CC Henderson), of Alabama; nieces and nephews, Teresa (Marvin) Couch, of Chattanooga, Herbert G.
