The city of East Ridge will be 100 years old on Saturday. In April, 1921, the Town of East Ridge was formally incorporated. It wasn’t until Nov. 3, 1970, that voters elected to change the name of the municipality from town of East Ridge to city of East Ridge.
Typically, cities celebrate such milestones with festivals and large events. However, with East Ridge’s 100th birthday falling on Easter weekend and the city continuing to observe the current COVID guidelines, city officials made the decision to postpone the anniversary celebration until later in the year.
To plan the big party, officials tagged a group of local volunteers who labeled themselves as the East Ridge Centennial Committee. The committee began planning a fun, fresh, exciting, and family friendly one-day festival to commemorate East Ridge’s 100th Birthday.
Their plans are nearly complete and the committee is pleased to announce that the official “East Ridge Centennial Celebration” festival will be held at Camp Jordan on Saturday, Sept. 25. The Centennial Celebration will honor the history of East Ridge and celebrate its progress and future.
The festival will feature a 5k, 10k, and half-marathon race presented by Scenic City Multisport, local artists and a special designed community art piece, craft and homemade goods marketplace, free live music from local bands, family-friendly area, food trucks, local business showcase, beer garden, yard games, food trucks, and a community birthday surprises.
More details of the celebration will be coming soon. In the meantime, learn more about this event and opportunities to get involved at East Ridge’s 100th Birthday website at eastridge100.com.
