Marcus “Mark” Hall Atchley, 66, returned to his heavenly home on April 18, 2021 after a courageous battle with a long illness. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.

Mark was born to the late Hall and Connie Atchley on Dec. 10, 1954 in Chattanooga, Tn. He graduated from Red Bank High School where he was involved in many sports including football. Mark signed with the University of Georgia to play football. He married Starr Webster in 1984. Mark later attended Chattanooga State Nursing Program and worked as a RN for over 20 years. He loved spending time with his family and friends; his favorite pastime was playing golf, and he did as often as he could. Mark was a patient and kind man with a passion for caring for others. Mark will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, George and Ezna Jonopulos, and William and Faye Atchley.

He is survived by his wife, Starr Atchley; his daughters, Maggie (Reed) Hooper and Meghan Atchley; his grandchildren, Ella, Evie, Silas, and Charlotte; his brothers, Woody Atchley and Dan (Lynn) Atchley; his sister, Liz (Craig) Allen; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will take place on Monday, April 26, at 1 p.m. at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church with Father Stavros Ballas officiating.  Interment will follow the service at Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.  Pallbearers will be Cal Atchley, Seth Atchley, Zack Allen, Hall Allen, Alex Ramsey, and Sam Bedwell.   All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mark’s life. Family encourages everyone to wear red and black to represent Mark’s love for UGA football.
