Chattanooga native Katherine Klein Standifer Woods passed away in her home on Friday, September 17, 2021.

Known fondly as Kay by all of who knew her, she was the daughter of John Nicholas and Katherine Kollmansperger Klein, founders of the popular Dairy Gold chain of hamburger and ice cream establishments.

Growing up, she was an involved, popular student well-known for her smile and beauty as she attended St. Jude and Our Lady of Perpetual Help. She was a graduate of the 1966 class at Notre Dame High School and went on to attend “UC”’ as UT Chattanooga was known in those days. Until her health declined, she kept up with Notre Dame High classmates with monthly lunch outings as she kept in touch with many friends throughout the years. She was known by friends and family alike as an avid Tennessee Volunteers sports fan and for her lifelong love of sunning near the lake, beach or poolside. She was passionate about her own pets as well as all pets and animal welfare causes. In recent years, her energies were devoted to spending as much time as possible to being ‘Mimi’ to her beloved twin granddaughters, Kate and Eliza.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Keith N. Woods.

She is survived by her only son, Michael D. Standifer Jr., of Atlanta, GA, granddaughters Katherine “Kate” and Elizabeth “Eliza,” siblings J. Nicholas Klein, III (Kerry) of Belle Haven, VA, Ann Reich (Richard) of Tucson, AZ, Lynn Flynn (Steve) of Jeffersonville, IN, Frank Klein (Laurie) of Chesapeake, VA, and Cecelia Long (Bill) of Lawrenceville, GA., as well as nine nieces and nephews and 26 cousins.

The family will receive friends starting at 12 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, prior to a 1 p.m. Mass of Resurrection to be concelebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church by Monsignor Al Humbrecht and Rev. Peter J. Iorio. A private burial will follow.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Pet Placement Center of Chattanooga (https://petplacementcenter.charityproud.org/Donate)

Arrangements are by Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace, 423 877-3524www.lanefh.com.
