PREP BASKETBALL ROUND-UP: Lady Bucs Defeat Silverdale In OT

 The Lady Bucs needed a 9-2 margin in overtime to down a resilient Silverdale squad, 44-37, Friday night at the Silverdale Center. Tied at 35 all at the end of regulation, Boyd Buchanan went to the free throw line to make the difference in overtime. The Lady Bucs connected on seven of 10 attempts from the charity tripe o seal the win.

Sarah Durham led Boyd with 11. Silverdale’s Lauren Kugler topped all scorers with 16, while Kelsie Johnson added 11 for the Lady Seahawks.

With the win, the Lady Bucs go to  15-5 on the season, 4-2 in DII East.

Boyd Buchanan boys 58, Silverdale 42: Caden Johnson scored 11 of his game-high 20 points in the first half , but Silverdale managed to keep it close only trailing by two at the halfway point, thanks to Cam Mullins bucketing all eight of his points in the first two stanzas.

The Bucs (8-9, 4-2) outscored Silverdale, 22-6 in the final period to put the game awy.

In addition to Johnson’s 20, Ryan Lopez added 11 and Jacob Shockley 10 for Boyd Buchanan.

Brett Wright had 11 for the Seahawks.

Ooltewah boys 61, Rhea Co. 53: Ooltewah came out under-powered against the Golden Eagles, trailing 19-7 after the first quarter of play, but quickly found their mo-jo ripping Rhea Co, 25-10 in the second period to take a 32-29 lead into the lock room at halftime.

The Owls came out strong in the third stanza to take a 49-38 advantage into the final eight minutes of play.

Bryce Dupree had the hot hand for the Eagles with25 points,  including 18 from beyond the arc. Kyler Akin posted 10 for Rhea. Hris Styles had 11 rebounds for the Eagles.

Deleon Petty led the Owls with 18 to complete a double-double with 12 assists, while teammates Raymos McGee and Keyshawn Corbin had 16 and 14 respectively. 

Ooltewah girls 61, Rhea Co. 51: Jordan McCullough ripped the nets for 23 points to lead the Lady Owls to their ninth win of the year over Rhea Co., 61-51.

Jada Tharp and Faith O’Donnell each had 10 for Ooltewah (9-6, 3-2). Ava Travis led the Lady Eagles with 14.

East Hamilton boys 73, Signal Mountain 44: Other than a poor third quarter, East Hamilton stayed hot the entire game in downing the Eagles, 73-44.

The Hurricanes led at the half, 44-15, before giving up a third period margin of 16-4 to Signal Mountain. However, East Hamilton would bounce back with a 25-13 fourth quarter to take the win.

Ashton Munson continued his scoring streak with 16 for the Canes, as Cade Pendleton added 15 and Nick Long tossed in 10. Christopher Kennedy led the Eagles with 11.

Bradley Central girls 58, Walker Valley 19: The Bearettes ran their record to 16-2 with a big rivalry, 58-19, win over cross-town foe Walker Valley in Jim Smiddy Arena.

Karsee Weber again had the hot hand for Bradley, sinking six of 10 from the field and four of seven from the free throw line for 16 points. Avary Brewer had 11 and Hannah Jones 10 for Jason Reuter’s streaking Bearettes. 

Bradley’s defense was too much for the Lady Mustangs as they scored 27 points off turnovers. The Bearettes showed their depth, as well,  with their bench outscoring Walker valley by a 22-8 margin. Bradley held a 30-21 margin in rebounds.

Walker Valley boys 49, Bradley Central 45: Walker Valley got 13 points from Hobert Brabson and 12 from Heath Davis to power past the Bears, 49-45. The Mustangs used a margin of 10-4 second chance points to edge the Bears in a game that saw only two lead changes, while being tied four times.

Aiden McLary led Bradley with 13 points on five for eight shooting from the field.
