Mowbray Mountain Is Out Of Voter Exile

  • Wednesday, October 26, 2022

Hamilton County Commissioners Geno Shipley and Chip Baker, thank you so much.

I am so grateful to y’all for restoring Mowbray Mountain back to the city of Soddy Daisy and Sale Creek District 1.

The recent redistricting stripped Mowbray Mountain from District 1, and moved us to District 2.  I never thought in a million years it would be possible to restore Mowbray Mountain and move us back.  Doing happy song dance on this one.  Our Mowbray community culture is not similar at all to Signal Mountain, or are we connected by direct infrastructure.

I know a lot of people on Mowbray Mountain were upset about being redistricted. I did not know until today why we were districted out of 1 until Commissioner Chip Baker clarified today.  I apologize for my hard words towards Commissioner Baker for our community being ripped out of District 1.  It certainly felt like voter suppression of our community, and voter Siberia.

Long story short, since forever, Mowbray Mountain has been part of District 1 and represented by the beloved school board member Rhonda Thurman. Yes, Soddy Daisy loves our Rhonda.

Much gratitude to you both Commissioners Shipley and Baker. I look so forward to what Commissioner Shipley will bring to the table for our community.

Awesome move, thank you County Commission.  Mowbray Mountain is out of voter exile.

This will be a fine group of commissioners.  Well, we like y’all today, but as you know that is subject to change depending on property taxation.
