Governor Gavin Newsom, D-CA ran a presidential shadow campaign as his state ran up multibillion dollar deficits. His response to the Hollywood fire and flip flopping on men in girl’s sports highlighted his ineffectiveness as a governor. So it should be no surprise he wants the National Guard out of LA in the wake of rioting by a leftist mob trying to interfere with deportation arrests.
Senator Cory Booker, D-NJ, another presidential wannabe, referred to what’s happening as “peaceful protests” caused by Trump causing chaos and arresting people (BBC 6/8/25). This came as a masked rioter on a motorcycle waving a Mexican flag circled a burning ICE vehicle in defiance of federal authority (Daily Mail 6/9/25). This is reminiscent of the “fiery but mostly peaceful protest” chyron on CNN as fires raged in Kenosha, Wi. during the George Floyd riots of 2020.
Critics say Trump escalates the problem, but looking back to 2020 it was Democrat governors and mayors’ slow responses to quell rioters that led to looting and burning on a grand scale. Trump is fulfilling promises to deport illegal aliens which most Americans want done. A Pew Research Survey in May, 2025 found only 16 percent opposed deportation.
Expect more outrage over Secretary of Defense Hegseth saying Marines are ready if needed. Remember in 1957 President Eisenhower federalized the Arkansas National Guard and deployed
the 101st Airborne in response to threatened violence in the desegregation of Little Rock High School.
In LA rioters threw Molotov cocktail incendiaries over “rumors” of an ICE raid at a Home Depot (BBC 6/8/25) and there no indication it’s over. A President must protect ICE agents doing their job and must act decisively to bring order out of chaos whether in response to rumors or riots.
