James Stephen “Steve” Langley, 65, of Soddy Daisy, died on Wednesday, December 28, 2022.

He was born on Jan. 17, 1957, in Hixson to the late James and Betty Langley. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Fred Gann.

Survivors include his wife Leslie Langley, children, Tiffany Langley and Travis Langley, sisters, Cindy Langley Gann and Beth (Steve) Langley Swayne. He had many friends and was loved by many.

Steve graduated in 1975 from Hixson High School. He attended Chattanooga State and UTC. He played center for the 1975 HCL Championship basketball team. He made All City/County and was honorable mention for All State.

Steve sang all of his life. He was in the Hixson High School Chorus and performed in “Music Man”. He was a member of the UTC Singing Mocs. After retirement, Steve sang at Soddy Daisy Health care for almost 10 years; he loved his brothers and sisters there. He recorded a tape in 1994. He sang at many churches in the tri state area. He blessed many people and was instrumental in many people being saved. He sang at Central Baptist Church for four years and many churches and fund raising events.

Steve worked 37 years for UPS. He was a Union Steward for Teamsters Local 519.

Steve was an avid artifact hunter and was a member of the Genuine Indian Relic Society and the Central States Archeological Society. Steve was published in several archeological journals. He loved to hunt artifacts and hunted them for over 40 years. He enjoyed seeing eagles and other wildlife up and down the Tennessee River. He was an avid fisherman and he noodled for catfish and jug fished. He donated an 82 pound catfish to the Tennessee Aquarium.

The family will receive friends at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home from 4-8 Friday, Jan. 6.

Funeral services will be at noon on Saturday, Jan. 7, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Shoemate officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
