Guffey, James Edwin (Athens)

James Edwin Guffey, 69, of Athens, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at his home.

He was a lifelong resident of McMinn County, and was the son of Majorie Wade Guffey and the late James C. Guffey. He was a member of Allen Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of McMinn County Class of 1971, was a graduate of University of the South (Sewanee) and he received his masters degree from the University of Tennessee in engineering. He was associated with ABB and Thomas & Betts until his retirement.

He is survived by his loving wife, Melissa Hancock Guffey; his mother, Majorie Wade Guffey; his daughter, Leah Marie ; grandchildren, Ayla and Thoren; four step-sons, Jacob, David, Josh and John Richard; one sister, Carol Russell; one brother, David Clay Guffey; one niece, Katy Russell; one nephew, Andy Russell; and two grand-nephews, Isaiah and Kaiden.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family suggests memorials be made to Clearwater Cemetery Fund, c/o Clearwater Baptist Church, 964 Co. Road 180, Athens, Tn. 37303.
