Jim McCarter, retired TVA executive and avid Tennessee Vols fan, died at Erlanger Hospital of a ruptured AVM on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at the age of 76. He passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living life to the fullest.

He was born to Simeon and Ella McCarter in Boyd’s Creek, Tn., on Dec. 23, 1945, and graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1968. After college, he served in the U.S. Air Force where he learned the skills that would guide him throughout his long career with TVA. Jim was an avid supporter of all things, especially UT sports and held season football tickets for 56 seasons while only missing four home games! If you couldn’t find Jim he was probably hiding at the golf course.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 23 years Wanda; children Ashley Gibson, Brad (Jennifer) McCarter, Hollie (Brady) Steele and Chris (Marti) Bolton; proud grandpa to 11 wonderful grandchildren, Mackenzie, Luke, Jacob, Annie, Cassidy, Cole, Ben, Savannah, Mei Mei, Eli, Emily and one great grandchild, Charleigh; siblings, Linda (Jack) Latham and Jerry (Lisa) McCarter; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jim will be honored with a Celebration of Life service at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dave Grant officiating.  A reception will be held immediately following the service at the funeral home until 4:30 p.m.  He will be laid to rest at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

In lieu of memorial flowers, the family welcomes donations to Spring City United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 158, Spring City, Tn. 37381.
