The bell tower was deemed unsafe
Bishop Kevin Wallace of Redemption to the Nations Church, 1908 Baily Ave., gave an update on the old Highland Park Baptist Church fire that took place on June 10.
"As many of you know, our church family experienced an arson a number of weeks ago at our Chattanooga location that destroyed the Phillips Chapel and Chauncey-Goode Auditorium." Bishop Wallace said. "While the perpetrator has not yet been caught, we have made tremendous progress in clearing the buildings that were destroyed as a result of the fire.
"Having a tremendous appreciation for the history of this property and all that God has done there over the years, it saddens me to report that the bell tower we intended to keep has been deemed unsafe and unusable for future purposes.
"We endeavor to incorporate salvaged pieces of the buildings into the developing renovations campus-wide.
"While the buildings have been destroyed, we believe God has a tremendous plan in mind that will honor our rich history and position us to reach our community in ways that will bring greater hope and life to those in our city.
"We covet your prayers as we walk this process out. Help me pray for provision and clarity as we endeavor to use this place to advance the kingdom of God."
