The Red Bank Lions club presented Lion Jim Sadler with the Melvin Jones award. Lions Clubs worldwide recognize outstanding individuals by bestowing on them an award named after Lions Club founder Melvin Jones.

Mr. Sadler has been a member of the Lions Club for 25 years. The 92-year-old was cited for being one of the club’s top pecan salesmen. This award is the highest form of recognition and embodies humanitarian ideas consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism.

Mr. Sadler said, “I am really honored to receive the prestigious award for selling pecans to help children with sight issues. A mother with four children received our services several years ago and now to show her appreciation, she's one of my regular customers.”

Mr. Sadler was presented the top award by Lion Nick Nixon. The annual fundraiser brings in thousands of dollars for the Lions Club's sight conservation program. Mr. Nixon noted that Mr. Sadler has been a funeral associate for 37 years and continues to work every day at the Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel.
