Ehmann Penalty Kick Leads Flames Past West Florida

  • Sunday, October 1, 2023
A penalty kick goal from Marc Ehmann was the difference as the Lee University men’s soccer team upset previously unbeaten University of West Florida Argos on Sunday afternoon.

It was the third straight win for the Flames who improved to 6-3-1 overall and 3-2-1 in GSC play. The Argos fall to 4-1-2 overall and 1-1-2 in GSC play.

UWF kept the pressure on Lee all afternoon taking 19 shots in the contest and only allowing Lee to take four. Neither team had many opportunities in the first half but both teams hit the frame of the goal in the last five minutes of the period.

The lone goal of the game came in the 56th minute.
Lee was awarded a penalty kick and Ehmann calmly converted it to earn the game winner.

In a very physical match, 13 cards were issued. The Flames earned seven yellows, while UWF had five yellows and two red cards.

The Flames will return home next week for a showdown with rival Shorter on Friday, October 6..

Coach Derek Potteiger’s Thoughts:

“That is a huge 6 point road trip!”

“We have felt unfortunate with a few previous GSC results for one reason or another but the guys have stuck together and kept working and that was a big em reward today.”

“We weren’t going to be able to play on the front foot after the output we had on Friday and so we needed to sit back and absorb for long portions of the game today. I’m so proud of the guys for buying in and giving themselves a chance to win today.”

“Lots of individual performances of note but just even more I’m really proud today for the investment of every player on the team.”
