The Covenant College volleyball team began the second half of its CCS schedule on Tuesday with a game against Berea. As it did the first time it played the Mountaineers, Covenant won in straight sets. Covenant improves to 19-1 overall and 9-0 in conference play.
Rachel Bartlett and Kyla Bailey had kills early on in the first set as Covenant led 10-5. Berea hung with the Scots, keeping the score within five as the set progressed. Hannah Haerer and Bailey clinched the set for Covenant at 25-20 with kills on the final two points.
The second set started with four consecutive points for the Scots. The Mountaineers fought back to tie the set at 11. Four straight points for Covenant gave it some cushion later in the set at 22-18. A kill from Bailey assisted by Bartlett gave the Scots a 25-21 set two win.
Four attack errors from the Mountaineers at the beginning of the third set saw Covenant take a 6-1 lead. Kills from Bailey and Kalbfleisch extended the Scots lead to 16-6. The set ended at 25-11 as did the match on a service ace from Kelsey Carman.
Kalbfleisch led Covenant with 12 kills while Haerer was right behind her with 11. Bartlett tallied 36 assists for Covenant. Sarah Jennings had 13 digs for the Scots Covenant is on a 14-game winning streak.
The Scots go to Agnes Scott on Saturday for a tri-match with them and Huntingdon.
