Edward Lee Rhinehart, 80, of the Lakeview Community went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

He was born in Chattanooga to the late Willis and Lucille Rhinehart and lived in the North Georgia area the last 33 years. Ed was a 1961 graduate of Tyner High School and a proud veteran serving seven years with the United States Air Force. He was a retired National Guardsman where he served in the Desert Storm Conflict, earning a Bronze Star. He was devoted to his military and supported veterans. He worked as Merchandise Broker for many years before going to work for the City of Fort Oglethorpe where he retired from the Public Works Department. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his buddies, the Tennessee Vols, Atlanta Braves, and spending time with his family. Ed will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of the Parkway Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Gail Bowen.

Survivors include his loving wife of 33 years Shirley Justice Rhinehart; children, Melissa (Andre) Toran, and Morgan Chastain, Tracy Hilliard and Patton (Melanie) Hilliard; grandchildren Raven Holloway, Jaxon Holloway, Darby Freeman, Amber Richardson and Karen Richardson.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tn. 37403 or Salvation Army at 822 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37403.

A graveside service to honor the life of Ed will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with full Military Honors and Dr. David Sampson officiating.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, South Crest Chapel.
