Why am I not surprised one of the ProgressiveX members of Chattanooga City Council is promoting skateboarding and rollerblading in downtown? After all we’re not moving quick enough to become Tennessee’s Asheville or Austin.
I had to laugh when I read Vice Chair Jenny Hill cite “rules for use and protection of property.” Ms Hill expects skateboarders to follow those rules and if they don’t what happens? Current bans aren’t being enforced according to the news article and CPD is dealing with repeated shootings.
They’ve modified their response to traffic accidents so who will enforce Ms Hill’s skateboard rules.
Downtown Chattanooga can’t be run like an HOA where violations on the height of shrubs or certain days to mow the lawn can be imposed by the neighborhood violation enforcer. The city is struggling with managing automobile traffic on Frazier, and Ms. Hill wants to add skateboarders and rollerbladers whizzing in and out of already congested traffic.
I guess concerns about little things like that won’t stop Chattanooga’s March to Progress.
