Gayle Anne Eldridge Maul was born to Raymond and Jeanette Eldridge in Wellsville, New York, on September 22, 1937. She attended State University College at Buffalo to attain her teaching degree. While there she met her beloved husband David Lee Maul. Gayle and David have two children, Michael David Maul and Michele Rae Webb, as well as an “adopted” Spanish son, Miguel Garay Auban, and son-in-law Michael Webb.

Gayle had a long and rewarding teaching career at Akron Central Schools, first as a Kindergarten teacher, then after she received her master’s degree in Special Education, moved on to teach Special Education elementary students, then middle school students, and finally high school students.

Gayle had many activities during her life in Buffalo, including bike riding, cheerleading coaching, retail work at Jens department store, taking motorcycle trips, as well as looking after her parents.

After retiring from Akron, David and Gayle moved to Chattanooga, to be close to their daughter and grandsons Michael Wesley Webb and Dylan Lee Webb. Gayle secured a position at Chattanooga State Community College as a disability support specialist, where she worked for 16 years until the end of her career in education.

While in Chattanooga, Gayle was a docent at the Tennessee Aquarium and a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. She played an important role in her families lives as a source of love, support, and education. She loved to buy books for her family and friends and was always loving and engaging with everyone she met. She could read a book while riding as a passenger on a motorcycle and write wonderful poems describing a family event. She loved to take trips abroad with David and trips around the country with her family. Throughout her daily life, she was always an excellent teacher, looking for new and exciting things she could bring her students, all of whom she loved and who all loved her.

Gayle and David have lived at Ashwood Square Resort Lifestyle Communities since 2018 enjoying retirement living and being a never-ending joy to their family and friends.

Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Hamilton Funeral Home in Hixson on Monday, Feb. 6, at 11:30 a.m. with Reverend Richard Looney officiating.
