Strong In Her Faith, Cared For Her Family, And Was An Avid Golfer

Janie Quinn Cummings, 88, of Chattanooga, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023.

Having lived in Elaine, Arkansas through high school, she moved to Chattanooga to live and work following college at Memphis State University. She spent many years as a devoted wife and raising two children.

Janie had been a member of First Baptist Church at Golden Gateway since 1991 with active participation in the Sanctuary Choir, handbell choir and The Waters Sunday School Class. She was strong in her faith and lovingly cared for her family.

Janie was an avid golfer and dedicated countless hours serving in leadership in the Chattanooga Women’s Golf Association, and helping facilitate charity tournaments supporting the Bethel Bible Village Children’s Home.

Janie was preceded in death by her husband, Harold B. Cummings III and by her parents, Joseph Houston Quinn Sr. and Effie Appling Quinn.

She is survived by her son, Kerry (Sherry) Mt. Juliet, Tn., and daughter, Angela Cummings of Amsterdam, Netherlands. She was the proud grandmother of Nicholas Cummings Samples of Chattanooga and Tessa Quinn Cummings of Mt. Juliet; in addition to many loved “Cummings” and “Quinn” relatives.

Funeral services will be held in the Jack McEwen Memorial Chapel, First Baptist Church Golden Gateway with Doctor Thomas Quisenberry officiating.

Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, March 24, at Lane Funeral Home and one hour before the 1:30 p.m. service at the church on Saturday, March 25.
