Flora Lee Hakes Kernea
Flora Lee Hakes Kernea, 86, of Rossville, Georgia, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023.
She was born on April 1, 1936 in Rossville, where she has been a life-long resident. Mrs. Kernea was of the Baptist faith; she was a sinner saved by grace! Flora was the president and founder of the Magnolia Chapter of The Gold Star Wives of America. She was a lifetime member of The DAV. Mrs. Kernea lived every day to help veterans and veteran widows. Flora was a loving caregiver and her greatest accomplishment was raising her three children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Donald Kernea; sons, Rick Kernea and Eddie Kernea; daughter-in-law, Connie Kernea; son-in-law, Gary Grimsley; granddaughter, Mindy Kernea; and brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna Grimsley; brother, Chester Hakes; grandchildren, Rick Kernea II, Alison Kernea (Bryan Basil), Cameron Grimsley (Sarah Cook), Chris Grimsley and Corrie Grimsley Humphries; great-grandchildren, Trey Kernea, Meghan Kernea, Caitlyn Kernea, Libby Humphries, Owen Humphries and Josslin Grimsley; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rick Kernea II and Cameron Grimsley officiating. Interment will follow at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park with Rev. Tom Law officiating.
Pallbearers will be Rick Kernea II, Trey Kernea, Cameron Grimsley, Bill Reesor, Bryan Basil, Billy Brown, Jimmy Whitlow and Jerry Kernea.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Gold Star Wives.
The family will receive friends from 12-8 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday at Heritage Funeral Home & Crematory, Battlefield Parkway.
