With great sorrow, we announce the unexpected passing of our amazing, caring, thoughtful, generous, loving, and honest wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Carrie Leigh Short.
Born in Chattanooga, on March 22, 1948, Leigh spent her life caring for others, often prioritizing the needs of others above her own, and working over 40 years at First Tennessee Bank, before she retired.

During retirement, Leigh spent her time supporting her granddaughters at every sporting event she could possibly attend, often traveling all over to do so. Traveling to visit them and to visit her new great-grandson when she could, and watching her favorite sports teams [honestly, any sports on TV] and Hallmark movies.

God called her home on the early morning of her 75th birthday, on March 22, after a recent health battle. Leigh will be greatly missed and remembered by all of those whose lives she graced. In our minds, she was taken from us entirely too soon, but God’s timing is everything. He decided it was best for her to celebrate in heaven with her parents, Brandon’s mom Teresea, family, friends, and probably a show by her favorite singer, Elvis. We love you G-Ma. We hate that you are gone but are so happy that you are no longer suffering. Until we meet again!

Leigh was predeceased by her parents, Blanche and George, stepfather, James, and twin sister, Linda.

She left behind her loving husband, James; daughters, Tara (Eric) and Marissa (Brandon); granddaughters, Tory, Tiffany (Kevin), Kaylee, and Sophia; great-grandson, Kylo; and sister, Anne, as well as countless other family and friends.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Aunt Gay, Aunt Freda, and my mom’s friend Mariam. Thank you for all the love and care you provided her during this time. We love you! And a special thank you to the staff at Alexian for the care provided during her stay there.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the YMCA Community Action Project (Y-CAP). Please visit: Click Here to Donate

Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 5 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Arrangements are by John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 423 622-9995.
