The John Sevier Chapter of the Tennessee Society Sons of the American Revolution joined with the Tennessee Society General Society War of 1812 to recognized and honor the Patriots of the James Cozby family at Pitts family cemetery in Falling Water on Saturday.
The General Society War of 1812, Tennessee Society President Mr. John Head, Jr. participated in the ceremony that included the unveiling and dedication of Patriot 1812 grave site markers honoring the 1812 War time service of Major James Cozby, Private James Woods Cozby and Private Robert Cozby.
The John Sevier Chapter TNSSAR honored the Sons and Daughters of Revolutionary War Patriot Corporal/Dr.
James Cozby by dedicating grave marker medallions at each of the grave sites for Jane Cozby Henderson, James Woods Cozby, Robert Cozby, Hugh Lawson Cozby and Lucinda Cozby. John Cozby, another son of James Cozby, was noted for his service in 1812, but was not officially honor as he is buried in Bradley County.
The ceremony included presentation and posting of colors by the TNSSAR Color Guard, family history information, localized notes on the War of 1812 militia units, Society ceremonial passages and concluded with a three-volley musket salute and the playing of TAPs.
The ceremony was part of the SAR’s on-going celebration of the people and events of the American Revolution’s 250th anniversary running to the end of 2033. SAR ceremonial events are open to the public. For additional event information, see the chapter’s calendar online

Grave Site of War of 1812 Patriot James Woods Cozby. James Woods Cozby was honored for his service in the War of 1812 with the unveiling of the 1812 Patriot marker by the General Society War of 1812. Additionally, James and his brothers (Robert and Hugh Lawson) and sisters (Jane Cozby Henderson and Lucinda) were honored with the dedication of the SAR’s Patriot Sons and Daughters grave medallions (top left corner of the grave marker).
