The Austin Hatcher Foundation Introduces New Staff

  • Tuesday, September 5, 2023

The Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer announces the expansion of its team with the addition of three professionals, Rocco Mansueto, Megan Smith and Thailinn Sandoval, alongside the promotion of Rachel Youngblood.

Mr. Mansueto brings his expertise to AHF as the new guidance counselor. With a degree in Psychology from Cleveland State University and additional schooling in School Counseling from John Carroll University, Mr. Mansueto's background uniquely equips him to address academic, college/career, and social and emotional needs of individuals, small groups, and the entire school community.

"I love how AHF attempts to meet the needs of all family members impacted by pediatric cancer,” said Mr. Mansueto. “Something about the depth of their services pulled me in."

Ms. Smith assumes the role of Program + Community Engagement coordinator. A survivor of childhood cancer herself, she holds a degree in Psychology and Coaching from Limestone College. Ms. Smith's experience as a college lacrosse coach at Lee University and her personal connection with AHF's mission will drive her efforts to foster stronger community ties and raise awareness of the Foundation's programs.

"Being a part of the Austin Hatcher Foundation is an honor close to my heart," said Ms. Smith. "Through my journey, I've witnessed the Foundation's transformative impact, and now I look forward to sharing my story to empower others."

Ms. Sandoval joins AHF as patient navigator, contributing to the Foundation's support network. She extends a warm and comforting welcome to families upon arrival, making sure each family feels supported from the moment they step through AHF's doors. Ms. Sandoval is responsible for overseeing the patient intake process, ensuring that the necessary paperwork reaches families, especially when multiple family members are involved. She records all individual patient and family information, ensures that all documentation is accurately uploaded and organized, and helps with family programs daily.

“I love to see the impact that we as a team make every day,” said Ms. Sandoval. “I love to see our families flourish.”

In a testament to growth within the organization, former Patient Navigator Ms. Youngblood steps into the role of Licensed Master Social Worker, having earned her Masters in Social Work in January. This promotion enables her to offer counseling services directly, further enhancing the Foundation's comprehensive support approach.

"At Austin Hatcher, we bridge the gap between empathy and self-empowerment," said Ms. Youngblood. "It's a privilege to work with such an inspiring community of individuals and families who are always finding new and creative ways to support one another. I'm grateful to learn and grow alongside this compassionate team of staff and clinicians who are dedicated to elevating the lives of the people we serve."
