Welcome Home of Chattanooga is hosting a community game event at Rise Creative Community Hub as part of a nationwide initiative on Thursday, Jan. 25 from 1-4 p.m. The goal is to foster meaningful conversations about medical decision-making through the interactive Hello game, making preparations for future decisions regarding serious health issues enjoyable and insightful.
Welcome Home of Chattanooga Executive Director Sherry Campbell, highlights the importance of the Hello game in preparing individuals for unforeseen situations.
"This game makes conversations about advance care planning more fun and meaningful, addressing topics that may not have been considered before," said Ms. Campbell. "While the subject may be challenging, it is a necessary one to discuss."
Officials said, "The community game day event aims to bring people together for discussions on living well and quality end-of-life care. Participants will gain valuable information on medical decision-making and receive an advance directive that they may choose to complete. This event serves as the initial step towards advance care planning, ensuring that every participant leaves prepared to continue the conversation and take crucial steps to communicate their end-of-life care goals.
"The Hello events are part of a significant NIH-funded research study led by Dr. Lauren Jodi Van Scoy at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, under the Project Talk research program. Partners in the project include the Hospice Foundation of America and the University of Kentucky. Participants opting in can receive up to $90 in gift cards for their valuable time."
Ms. Campbell believes in the importance of engaging communities in activities like these to enhance access to high-quality care in later stages of life. "Welcome Home of Chattanooga is committed to facilitating more frequent and easier conversations like these in the Chattanooga community," she said.
