Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 203 has a new float designed to encourage patriotism. The “God and Country Float” took to the streets of Chattanooga Friday traveling from the Medal of Honor Heritage Center downtown to Hamilton Place Mall in East Brainerd.

John Phillips Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever” played while the float journeyed through neighborhoods and business districts around the city.

Chapter 203 President Charlie Hobbs said it took three months to build the float with 50 flags representing each of the United States. “We are trying to send a positive message encouraging everyone to vote Nov. 5." Mr. Hobbs said, “Our chapter doesn’t endorse candidates but feels it’s every citizen's responsibility to vote.”

The float will also be used in area patriotic parades including next May’s Armed Forces Day Parade in downtown Chattanooga.

Mr. Hobbs said, “It may pass through your neighborhood soon.”

He said chapter members will be traveling around the area with the float for the next few weeks
