Tyree Newton, Sr.
Tyree Newton, Sr., 80, was born April 5, 1944, to the late Charles W. and Berteal Dillion Newton in Brookhaven, Mississippi. He was called to his eternal home on October 21, 2024.
Tyree worked at Conagra Foods, Inc. in Dalton, Ga., and as a handler at U.S. Steel for many years in Joliet, Il. He was affiliated with Greenwood Missionary Church in Brookhaven, Ms., until he relocated to Illinois. Later, he began attending Tucker Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles W. and Berteal Dillion Newton; sisters, Louise Newton Armistead and Alberta Newton Longino; brother, Charles W. Newton, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his many precious memories with his loving wife of 42 years, Sheila M. Newton of Chattanooga; doting daughters, Erma L. (Arthur) Evans of Houston, Michelle (Reuben) Simpson, and Tieshea R. Newton, both of Chattanooga; devoted sons, John A. (Natalie) Sligh of Greenville, SC, Tyree (Myesha) Newton, Jr., Tyrone (Shannon) Newton, both of San Diego, Ca., and William K. (Courtney) Sligh of Chattanooga; four sisters, Berniece Newton McCall, Irene Newton Liddell, Arlene Newton Brown, and Juanita Newton Robinson all of Brookhaven, Ms.; one sister-in-law, Anna Hunt of Chattanooga; two brothers-in-law, Richard B. Franklin of Queens, NY, and Jerry Franklin of Chattanooga; 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A memorial celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, in the chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., Chattanooga, 423 622-9995.
