Dayton Factory Tire
Nokian Tyres set a monthly production record in October at its North American factory in Dayton. The milestone comes as the company finishes infrastructure upgrades, optimizes efficiency and has hired workers at the facility, where it produces all-season and all-weather tires for drivers in the United States and Canada.
“Since opening in 2019, our team has remained committed to steadily expanding our output and helping our colleagues grow,” said Nokian Tyres Dayton Factory Operations Director David Korda. “It is rewarding to reach new heights in our growth journey, at the same time we are adding jobs and becoming more efficient than ever.”
The production record reflects rigorous training and equipment upgrades aimed at increasing daily yield while maintaining high quality standards. The team in Dayton stands at approximately 500 team members in recent months as the company hired employees to staff the new finished goods warehouse it opened this summer.
An automated gantry system came online in recent weeks to deliver tires from the production building to the warehouse. The global tiremaker ships tires from the finished goods warehouse in Dayton to its nine-warehouse network across North America, from which the company serves dealers in the United States and Canada.
Nokian Tyres has won awards for the operations and culture at its Southeast Tennessee campus, which opened five years ago last month. It received Company of the Year honors from the Chattanooga Regional Manufacturers Association in 2021 and was the first Rhea County company to win a Tennessee Governor’s Environmental Stewardship award.
The factory possesses ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certifications for its quality, sustainability and safety, respectively. The factory is the first LEED v4 Silver-certified tire production building in the world and is partially powered by solar energy. Onsite solar panels provide three megawatt-hours of energy every year.
