Five members of the Chattanooga women’s soccer team were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, the organization announced this week.
Caroline Ekern, Sylvie Keck, Carmya Mastrangelo, Zoey Mize and Kelly Teurff excelled both on the pitch and in the classroom.
Ekern played all 19 games in goal for the Mocs and recorded a 1.26 goals-against average. She tallied 62 saves with four shutouts and seven wins. The Knoxville, Tenn., native is a Marketing major with a 3.873 GPA.
She is a member of the UTC Dean’s List and Athletics Director’s Honor Roll. Ekern was also named to the Southern Conference All-Academic Team and Honor Roll.
Keck made 15 starts in 17 games this season in defense. She scored one goal this season in the Mocs win over The Citadel at Finley Stadium and was part of a defense that allowed just 24 goals this season, seventh fewest in program history. The Nashville, Tenn., native is a Secondary Education major English major and carries a 3.957 GPA. She is a member of the UTC Dean’s List and Athletics Director’s Honor Roll. Ekern was also named to the Southern Conference All-Academic Team and Honor Roll.
Mastrangelo carries a 4.0 GPA in Criminal Justice. The Alberta, Canada sophomore made 12 starts in 2024 18 games played at midfield and took seven shots. She was named to the UTC Dean’s List and Athletics Director’s Honor Roll. She earned a spot on the Southern Conference Fall All-Academic Team as well as the Honor Roll and was a recipient of the SoCon’s Commissioner’s Medal for Academics.
Mize led the Mocs in assists this season and ranked fourth in the league and 61st in the NCAA. She was second on the team in scoring with 11 points on two goals and seven assists. Eleven of her 21 shots were on goal and she recorded game winners against ETSU and in the Mocs first-ever win over Furman. The Ooltewah, Tenn., junior has a 3.806 GPA in Management. She is a member of the UTC Dean’s List and Athletics Director’s Honor Roll. Ekern was also named to the Southern Conference All-Academic Team and Honor Roll.
Tuerff served as team captain in 2024 and made 13 starts in 14 games, missing several due to injury. The defender helped UTC to a 1.26 goals-against average, fourth best in the Southern Conference. She assisted on the first goals in UTC’s 2-1 win over Wofford to open league play. She is a member of the UTC Dean’s List and Athletics Director’s Honor Roll. Ekern was also named to the Southern Conference All-Academic Team and Honor Roll.
Chattanooga advanced to the SoCon Tournament semifinal round, falling to the league regular season champion Western Carolina.
