Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Dalton’s April unemployment rate held steady at 3.8 percent, unchanged from the previous month. A year ago, the rate was 4.0 percent.

Thompson. "From the state to the local level, Georgia is focused on creating an environment where businesses can thrive, and everyday workers can find good jobs and build better lives.”
The labor force decreased in Dalton by 269 and ended the month with 60,033.
That number went up by 991 when compared to April of 2023.
Dalton finished the month with 57,728 employed residents. That number decreased by 282 over-the-month and rose by 1,070 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Dalton ended April with 69,100 jobs. Jobs decreased by 200 over-the-month and rose by 1,100 when compared to this time last year.
In April, initial unemployment claims increased by 545 (99 percent) in Dalton. When you compare April 2024 claims to April 2023, claims were down by 630 (-37 percent).
