"Bridges’ Illinois Battery: Brawling With Breckinridge" Program Is June 8

  • Friday, May 24, 2024
Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to attend a special living history event at Chickamauga Battlefield on Saturday, June 8. These 30-minute programs will be presented near the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

"Come experience the power of Civil War artillery as park rangers and living historians tell the story of artillery on the battlefield," officials said. "One of Chickamauga Battlefield’s greatest stories is that of Captain Lyman Bridges and his Illinois Battery.
Saddled with the unenviable task of anchoring Thomas’ left flank on the morning of September 20, 1863, Bridges battled Confederate General John C. Breckinridge’s three brigades. Ironically, Bridges’ brave stand is overshadowed by his illustrious retreat from the field of battle. Join us to hear the story of Captain Bridges, his men, and what they did here 161 years ago."

For more information about programs at Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, contact the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center at 706-866-9241, the Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center at 423-821-7786, or visit the park website at www.nps.gov/chch.
