David Austin Lockaby
David Austin Lockaby passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024.
A native of Chattanooga, David made his home in Atlanta for much of his adult life before recently returning to Chattanooga to live close to family.
David graduated from Danville High School in Danville, Ky., in May 1974, where he was captain of the football team. David received the All-State designation for high school football in Kentucky and played in the annual Kentucky - Ohio All-Star Football game. David’s involvement in Fellowship of Christian Athletes during high school had a profound impact on his life.
He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing.
David had a remarkable career as a sales representative in the home improvement industry. During the past 12 years David enjoyed a highly successful role as a salesman in the Atlanta branch of Bath Fitter, where he routinely led the team in sales production. Nationwide David was continually ranked in the top 10% of Bath Fitter sales production.
David’s sense of humor, engaging personality, passion for sports, cars, boating, and music, and love for his family, were hallmarks of who he was. David will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
David was predeceased by his parents, Robert Lee Lockaby and Joan Gray Lockaby Youngblood.
David is survived by his loving brother and sister, Robert Lee (Becky) Lockaby, Jr., and Laura Lockaby (Scott) Lillard, five nephews, two nieces-in-law, two great-nephews, and many beloved aunts and cousins.
Visitation and a Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, July 22, in the Worship Center at Ooltewah United Methodist Church (6131 Relocation Way, Ooltewah, Tn. 37363), with visitation beginning at 4:30 p.m., and the service beginning at 6 p.m., officiated by Pastor Micah Nicolaus.
Burial and a family graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on July 29, at Shepherd Memorial Park in Hendersonville, NC, where other Lockaby extended family members are buried.
The family has established a fund at Ooltewah United Methodist Church in David’s memory to be used to increase the availability of mental health services to underserved local populations.
Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Ooltewah United Methodist Church designated for Hope for Mental Health.
