Lynda Packer Walker, 78, of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2024.

A 1963 graduate of City High School, Lynda was born in Trion, Ga., to the late Tom and Jamie Packer and lived in the Chattanooga area for her entire life. Her remarkable life included caring for patients for over 30 years as a registered nurse at various facilities in the greater Chattanooga area. Lynda was also a nursing instructor and counseled and mentored a large number of students for many years. Besides fulfilling her dream of becoming a nurse, Lynda was a self taught professional calligraphist and produced a large volume of stunning artwork throughout her life which graces many homes to this day. Known by her family as “Ninny”, her greatest love and passion was her family and her six grandchildren. Ninny poured her life into her family in ways that are impossible to describe in this short space. An incredible cook, family seamstress, and impeccable gift-giver, Ninny poured an immeasurable amount of love into her children and grandchildren, which we feel in an overwhelming sense at her passing.

Ninny was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Ray Walker, and her parents, Tom and Jamie Packer.

Survivors include her sister, Sharon Beene (Gary), son, Forrest Walker (Alex), daughter, Lyndsay Slaten (Chris), and step daughters Laura (Joe) McNutt, and Stacey Walker; grandchildren: Shepard Slaten, Sally Ann Slaten, River Slaten, Leighton Walker, Ellison Walker, and Forrest Walker III, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and a great nephew all who loved her dearly. Our family also rejoices in the many reunions that have taken place in God’s kingdom with her passing. In a world that is focused on “Me-ism”, the Lord produced the fruits of the spirit in Ninny by leading her to always put other people ahead of her agenda and this was evident even in her last days. She was the consummate example of living out the “I’m Third” lifestyle (God First, Others Second, and Ourselves third) and we rejoice that she is with the Lord.

Our family is grateful for the incredible care of Hospice of Chattanooga and in particular Dr. Guy Fain, Travis Smith, and Cristol Koerting. The family also wants to thank NHC Healthcare of Chattanooga for their excellent care and professionalism and the family also wants to thank Dr. Chad Armstrong for his superb and compassionate care of our mom.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, July 27, at 2 p.m. at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church with Dr. Scott Bowen officiating.

Arrangements are entrusted to Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, Tn. 37415, www.lanefh.com, 423 877-3524.
