CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- Sweeping Thursday's District 5-AA trimatch, Cleveland's golf teams got past both Rhea County and Sequoyah, at the Cleveland Country Club.
Coach Lamar Mills' Blue Raiders fired a 162, bettering the Golden Eagles (168) by a half dozen shots and the Chiefs (204) by 38.
The Lady Raiders held off the Lady Eagles 97-99, while the Lady Chiefs weren't far behind with a 102.
Cleveland sophomore Dalton Franklin and senior Emma Claire Smith earned low medalist honors with a 1-over-par 37 and a 45 respectively.
Joining Franklin in posting the boys' winning tally was senior Henry Brown at 3-over 39, while classmate Carter Pierce and sophomore Brody Williford both fired 43s.
Sophomore Zoie Stinnett capped the Lady Raider victories with a 52.
Brayden Reel and Eli Everett paced the Eagles with 41s, while Jamison Knight and Jake Mickel both carded 43s.
Ryan Hall topped Sequoyah with a 43.
Rhea County got a 48 from Alyssa Stinnett and a 51 by Nikkita Pilcher, while Lady Chief Caroline Britton shot 50.
Earlier in the week, Cleveland traveled up Signal Mountain, the host Eagles won 148-163, plus the Lady Eagles varsity posted an 83-96 victory.
The Signal Mountain boys, who have made eight state tournament trips, including the last seven straight with a trio of titles and two runners-up finishes, got four scores in the 30s — Tucker Cruise (36), Hugh Witherspoon (37), Benji Gordon (37) and Brayden Helle (38) — for the victory.
Brown topped the Raiders with a 3-over 39, while Franklin was right on his heels with a 40.
Pierce and sophomore Matt Milen helped out with 42s.
In the girls play, the Lady Eagles, which have won a half dozen state crowns in 10 trips, notched the lowest scores with May May McGee's 41, while Maddy Odell was right behind at 42.
Smith led Cleveland with a 47, while Stinnett shot 49.
