The men’s and women’s cross country teams open the 2024 season Friday at the Tennessee Cross Country Invitational at Cherokee Farms in Knoxville.
"We are excited and ready to begin our season at the Tennessee Invite,” Mocs head coach Andy Meyer said. “The Tennessee staff is very generous to host us and put on such a great meet this early in the season. It is a great test to see our current fitness level and indicate what we need to improve upon over the next few weeks.
“We again this year will mainly be running our freshmen and kids that did not get to race much last year. This meet is a great way for the younger kids to be introduced to the increase in intensity and speed of college racing. We know what our older kids can do, we need to see what our younger kids can do and prepare them for the rigors of a full college cross country season, and this is the perfect opportunity for that purpose."
The women’s 3-mile race starts at 8:00 a.m.
followed by the men’s 4-mile. Results will be posted to GoMocs.com following the race.
The Chattanooga men earned a No. 15 South Region ranking by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Alabama is picked to win with Ole Miss, Tennessee and Florida State in the hunt.
