Moses Freeman, Jr. was born August 2, 1938, to Moses Freeman, Sr. and Essie Belle Burton Freeman. He slept into eternal rest on Saturday, August 3, 2024. His loving wife, Louise, and devoted son, Eric, were at his side.

Moses was a graduate of Howard High School, Class of 1956. He attended the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga. Moses graduated from Tennessee State University in Nashville, Class of 1960. He was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. Moses was an active Second Missionary Baptist Church member until his health failed.

Moses's former work career included being a city councilman for District 8, owner/developer at Urban Development Corporation Inc., physical revitalization specialist at Lyndhurst Foundation/Community Impact, administrator at the city of Chattanooga, history teacher at Howard High School, and executive director at Northeast Florida Community Action Agency.

Moses was married to his loving, caring wife, Louise Doss. Moses was a Christian Man of God, A Husband, Son, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Uncle, Teacher, Storyteller, Civil Rights Leader, and Mentor.

Moses was preceded in death by his father, Moses Freeman Sr., his mother, Essie Belle Burton Freeman, and brothers, Howard Freeman, Charles Freeman, and Rev. Robert Freeman.

Cherishing sweet memories, Moses is survived by his devoted wife, Louise Doss Freeman, his devoted son, Eric Freeman, his sister, Gloria Freeman, and his brother, Melvin Freeman, grandsons, Johnathan (Libby) Freeman of Las Vegas, NV, and Joseph (Imani) Freeman of Gulf Breeze, FL. great-grandchildren, Keighley and Olivia Freeman of Las Vegas, NE, Luca and Lena Freeman of Gulf Breeze, FL. special niece, Natalie Torrence King; special great-nephew; Jermale Maffett; aunt; Mattie Burton of Americus, GA; sisters-in-law, Carrie Brummitt and Mildred Freeman; brother-in-law, Calvin Doss; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

Moses enjoyed his fellowship luncheon each Wednesday with Judge Walter Williams, Jefferson Herring, Rev. Marcellus Barnes, Oliver Richmond, Rev. Dr. Adam McKee, and Rev. Gary Hathaway.

Special acknowledgments to spiritual friend Yusuf Hakeem and dedicated friend/neighbor Scott Allen.

Public viewing will be held 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at the funeral home. An 11 a.m. funeral service will be held, Monday, August 12, 2024, at Second Missionary Baptist Church, located at 2305 East Third St.

Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.
