Connie Cunningham Carpenter, 87, longtime resident of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2025.

Mrs. Carpenter was from a prominent Lookout Mountain family and was a first cousin, five times removed of President Andrew Jackson.

She was a graduate of GPS and received her master’s degree in English from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Mrs. Carpenter debuted with the Chattanooga Cottonball.

She held memberships with the United Daughters of Confederacy, the Daughters of the American Revolution where she was a regent, and the Junior League of Chattanooga.

She was a former member of First Centenary United Methodist Church and was recognized by former Mayor Pat Rose for her longtime charity work in Chattanooga.

Mrs. Carpenter was the daughter of the late J. Hamilton and Elizabeth Cunningham and was also preceded in death by her sister, Carroll Cunningham Reddan.

She is survived by her daughter, Natalie (Doug) Gascay, Ten Mile, TN; grandchildren, Michael Hayden Dellinger, Chattanooga and Lauren Elizabeth Dellinger (Grant Jones), Tucker, GA; cousins, Neal L. (Brenda) Thompson, Joyce Thompson (John) Jones, all of Chattanooga, Sue Shepherd of Alabama, Alice Chalfont of Maryland, and George Chalfont of Virginia; niece, Connie Reddan (Witt) Miller, Signal Mtn., and nephew, John Hamilton Reddan, Savannah, GA

A private family service will be held at Forest Hills Cemetery.
