Mozell Sims Thaxton
Mozell Sims Thaxton was born on January 2, 1937, to the late Redden and Margaret Elizabeth Sims. She passed away on February 4, 2025, to be with her Lord and Savior.
Mozell united with Second Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend M. H. Ribbins.
Mozell completed her Chattanooga Public School System education and graduated from Howard High School in 1955. She was a Chattanooga Public School System retiree with over 30 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Redden and Margaret Elizabeth Sims; brothers Willie (Puttin) Sims, Fred Douglas Sims, Sherman Sims, and James David Sims; sister Mary Elizabeth Sims; brother and sister-in-law Jesse Lee and Jeraldine Sims; sister Deloria Westfield; nieces Joyce Keith, Rosemary Gordon, and Gwendolyn Terry; and nephews Roosevelt Terry, Louis Chislom, James Westfield, Errol Freeman, and Everrett Freeman.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, LaTonya Celeste and Peter Peter; nieces, Valerie Jennings, Renee Freeman, Della Lee, Sonya Sims, and Janice Terry; nephews, Tyrus (Betty) Chislom, Ralph Chislom, Glen Chislom, Francis (Patricia) Westfield, Sam (Charisse) Sims, and Ernest Terry; great nieces, Christian (Darrius) Barber, Cassaundra Freeman, Leslie Gordon, Cornelia (Tredarion) Hampton, Markeya Lee, Tammy Jackson, Melissa Terry, Jameila Fitch, Taylor Westfield, Ebony Westfield, Jordyn Sims, Jessica Sims; great nephews Jermicah Jennings, Trammell Chislom, Tyrus Chislom, Jr., Legend (Hailey) Freeman, Evan (Sasha) Freeman, Demetrious Terry, A.J. Westfield, and Mr. Johnny Holloway; a host of other relatives and special friends, Reverend Richard and Mrs. Doris Earvin, Mary Quarles, and Lorenzo Benson.
Public viewing will be from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16, at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, at Second Missionary Baptist Church at 2305 East Third Street. Interment will follow at Beautiful Greenwood Cemetery.
