David Ray Watts
David Ray Watts, 95, of Ooltewah, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025.
A beloved brother, uncle, and friend, David was known for his warm heart, green thumb, and unwavering love for the simple joys in life.
Born on August 4, 1929, David was a lifelong resident of Tennessee and a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Maggie Watts; his brothers, Fred (Betsy) Watts and Vaughn (Jeanette) Watts; and his sister, Elizabeth (Alvin) Holder.
David is survived by his loving sisters, Carolyn (Donnie) Holder and Lillian Simms, as well as several cherished nieces and nephews who will deeply miss his stories, laughter, and presence at every family gathering.
An avid gardener, David was affectionately known as the “Tomato King” for his unmatched ability to grow the juiciest, most flavorful tomatoes in the neighborhood. He also found great joy in fishing, spending countless peaceful hours by the water with rod in hand.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of David’s life on Saturday, June 7, at Crossroads Baptist Church, at 9122 Ooltewah Georgetown Road, Ooltewah, Tn. 37363. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m., officiated by Pastor Travis Rogers. Interment will follow at New McDonald Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Watts, Wayne Lamb, Jason Holder, Dakota Holder, Tyler McNew, Bill Watts, and Colton Holder.
