Jon Franklin Young

Jon Franklin Young, 54, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.

 

Jon was born March 6, 1971, in Chattanooga to Sheila H. Young and H. Franklin Young, Jr. Jon was a proud graduate of the Baylor School (‘89), UTC (‘97), and Tennessee Tech (‘08).

For 23 years, Jon enjoyed being a teacher, coach, and assistant principal in Hamilton County Schools. He began his career at Loftis Middle School where he coached football and wrestling before moving to Sale Creek Middle-High School to coach wrestling. Jon served as an assistant principal at Soddy Daisy Middle School and East Ridge Middle School before his retirement.

Jon enjoyed camping, fishing, and gardening in his spare time and in his retirement. He loved Nascar racing, UT football, and sharing time with his family and friends.

If Jon was your friend, you were lucky. He was a loyal and supportive buddy. Once Jon was your friend, he always had your back.

Jon is survived by his mother, Sheila H. Young, his sister, Diona Brown, his aunt and uncle, Dianne and Sam Hixson, cousins, Matt (Ana) Hixson, and his special treasures, Luke and Fiona Hixson, cousin Josh Hixson and his Rumor friends and his Brentwood neighbors.

A visitation for Jon will be held Thursday, June 12, from 3-4 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel, 5401 Highway 153 Hixson, Tn. 37343. A memorial service will follow the visitation starting at 4 p.m. with Father Murdock Jones officiating.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Kidney Foundation, or the Baylor School.
