Members of the Dalton Amateur Radio Club’s 2024 ARRL Field Day event at Lake Shore Park
The Dalton Amateur Radio Club invites the public to experience the excitement of amateur radio at the ARRL Field Day 2025, held at Red Clay State Park on June 28.
This annual ARRL event is the most popular on-the-air event held in the U.S. and Canada. On the fourth weekend of June, more than 31,000 radio amateurs gather with their clubs, groups or friends at transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radio’s science, skill and service to the community and the nation. The theme for this year is “Radio Connects,” which highlights the many ways that wireless technology connects people across distances near and far.
Field Day combines public service, emergency preparedness, community outreach and technical skills all in a single event since 1933 and continues to remain the most popular event in ham radio.
"This event is not only a social and fun event, but our club focuses on using amateur radio technology and practicing for emergencies," said club president, Greg Williams. "It’s like ham radio’s open house for the public. There is so much to this hobby, and we are excited to utilize our skills out in the field and share what we do with the public."
This family-friendly event is free, open to all ages, and offers a unique blend of education, fun and community spirit in the historic setting of Red Clay State Park. For those wishing to participate in the event, setup will begin at 10 a.m., with activities continuing until 2 p.m. or later.
“You do not have to be a club member to participate," said Mr. Williams. "Everyone is welcome. Our club plans to set up radios at several of the picnic areas and has reserved the pavilion for socializing. So, plan to stop by and visit, ask questions and see what getting on the air is all about."
