Drivers traveling on SR 68 in Polk County should be aware of a bridge replacement project that will impact traffic. Replacement of the two SR 68 bridges over US 64 in Ducktown is being performed by Wright Brothers Construction Company, Inc. for $10,963,940.48. The contract completion date is December 2026.
Upon completion, the project will provide additional clearances on US 64 (SR 40) under the new bridges. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on SR 68 for the duration of the project. In addition, there will be occasional temporary closures of US 64 for bridge removal activities.
Initial traffic control measures have been installed. All traffic is using the existing SR 68 South bridge while construction occurs on the new SR 68 North bridge. Once the new SR 68 North bridge is complete, all traffic will be shifted there while the new SR 68 South bridge is reconstructed.
Tonight and Wednesday evening from 6 p.m.-6 a.m. each night, Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will implement intermittent lane closures on US 64 for demolition activities on the SR 68 North bridge.
Drivers are encouraged to use caution as they travel through this area and expect delays. This work is weather-dependent. Should inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances cause delays, it will be rescheduled for a later date.
As always, drivers are reminded to use all motorist information tools wisely and Know Before You Go! by checking travel conditions before leaving for your destination. Drivers should never tweet, text, or talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel. Get the latest construction activity traffic updates from the TDOT SmartWay Map. Travelers can also call 511 for statewide travel information.
