Katharine “Katie” Michelle Patterson, 39, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord on April 2, 2025, with family and friends by her side. She valiantly fought a brain tumor and cancer for nearly 15 years.

Katie was born on January 27, 1986, in Decatur, Al. She grew up in Chattanooga, where she graduated from Chattanooga Christian School in 2004. She went on to study elementary education at Union University in Jackson, Tn., where she graduated in 2008.

Katie had an adventurous spirit and a love for the outdoors. After graduating college, she worked for two seasons at Keystone Ski Resort in Colorado and in the off season was a river rafting guide on the Pigeon River in East Tennessee. She also worked as a crew member at LeConte Lodge in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for two seasons. Despite being diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2011, Katie’s zeal for life never waned. Between treatments, she continued hiking, travelling, going on mission trips, crafting and living life to the fullest. Her faith sustained her in both good and bad times. She grew up attending Woodland Park Baptist Church where she surrendered her heart to Jesus, her Savior. She regularly attended Citizens of Heaven Church, as well as a Silverdale Baptist singles group. She also worked at a downtown street ministry, an outreach of her parents’ church, Woodland Park Baptist.

Katie was preceded in death by her father, Michael “Mickey” Patterson; her maternal grandparents, John R. and Mae Belle McAliley; her paternal grandparents, William E. and Alba “Richie” R. Patterson; uncles, Joseph and Jeffrey McAliley, Wayne Patterson and Kim Morris.

She is survived by her parents, Linda and Ken Hill and Kelly Patterson; brothers, Kenneth “Trey” Hill III, Michael and William Patterson; aunts and uncles, Mike and Sandy Jennings, Sherry Webber, Robin McAliley, Debbie McAliley, J.R. and Mary McAliley, Mike and Beth Morris; and many treasured cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Katie’s memory to the mission programs of either Woodland Park Baptist or Citizens of Heaven Church in Chattanooga. Katie had a heart to share God’s love to others. She continued to minister to children on mission trips, to the elderly and homeless at the downtown street ministry, even when she was suffering from chemo and the effects of the treatments.

Her favorite Bible passages are:

“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honorable, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8

A service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Woodland Park Baptist Church. Visitation will start at 1 p.m. and the service will start at 3 p.m.

Arrangements are by the Cremation Center of Chattanooga, 1345 Hickory Valley Road, Suite B, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.
