On a special night for the Lee University lacrosse team, the Lady Flames defeated the University of Montevallo 18-10 for the first win in Gulf South Conference action. The Lady Flames improved to 4-9 overall and 1-1 in GSC play.
It was the 6th annual Lacrosse Out Cancer game and the 3rd with the Austin Hatcher Foundation. The Austin Hatcher Foundation provides a lifetime of free, comprehensive support to pediatric cancer patients and their families through mental, behavioral, education, and social services so they can cope in the present and thrive in the future.
The Lady Flames came out on fire in the first quarter scoring six straight goals to lead it 6-1 after 15 minutes.
Noelle Harrington had two goals while Taylor McGovern, Makena Luzier, Callie Curtis, and Stella Starosciak each had one.
The Lady Flames continued the pressure in the second quarter scoring five goals to just two for UM. McGovern scored three goals in the period while Kylee Kangas and Hannah Vecsey added to the tally as well.
The third quarter was a little lower scoring as only a total of six goals found the back of the net. Vecsey had three, while Curtis had one.
Montevallo outscored Lee 5-3 in the final period as Curtis had two more while Vecsey scored the final goal.
Vecsey had four goals and two assists in the win. McGovern had four goals and an assist while Curtis added four goals as well.
Savannah Weisman had 11 saves for Lee in goal and Haley Lambeth had two in six minutes of action for Lee.
The Lady Flames outshot UM 34-26 in the win and doubled up the Falcons in draw controls at 20-10.
The Lady Flames will host Shorter University at 5 PM on Wednesday, April 9 at the Ray Conn Sports Complex.
