Covenant Women Second; Men Sixth At Conference Track And Field Meet

The Covenant Track and Field teams concluded their season at the CCS Outdoor Championships where the women placed second while the men finished sixth.

There were several standout performances for the Scots as four student-athletes combined for seven first-place finishes.

WOMEN'S RESULTS:

Evangelia Berry led the way for Covenant, finishing first place in both the 5,000m and the 10,000m events. The sophomore posted a time of 19:28.97 in the 5k and a time of 42:17.05 in the 10k.
Berry also raced in the 1500m, securing another podium finish of second-place with a time of 5:07.06.
For the third year in a row, Emma Christensen was the champion of the High Jump, where she had a mark of 1.56m. She also had podium finishes in the Triple Jump (2nd, 9.98m) and the Javelin Throw (2nd, 32.76m). Her throw in the Javelin is a new school record. Christensen also raced in the 100m dash, earning seventh with a time of 13.57. Her last event was the 200m dash, where she did not make it out of prelims.
Covenant's final first-place finish on the Women's side was Sarah Holler who won the Pole Vault for the second year in a row with a mark of 2.92m, which ties her own school record. Holler also competed in the High Jump where she had a mark of 1.36m to place sixth.
Emerson Tillery made it on the podium in the 10,000m run with a time of 42:53.64 to finish third. She also had a fourth-place result the next day in the 5,000m run with a time of 19:55.99.
Sarah Olson (4th, 43:29.30) and Claire Mellott (7th, 46:41.86) both also raced in the 10,000m run for Covenant.
Kenzi Stapleton was right behind Berry in the 1500m, placing third to earn a spot on the podium in her first CCS Outdoor Championships, with a time of 5:07.59. Olson was the next runner to finish with a time of 5:09.33. Mellott (7th, 5:33.05) and Kali Hina(8th, 5:48.28) also raced in the 1500m.
Olson (5th, 20:07.72), Stapleton (6th, 20:12.02), and Hina (11th, 22:46.50) joined Berry and Tillery in the 5,000m run.
Covenant's final individual podium finish came from Sophia Wiersema in the Javelin Throw as she was right behind Christensen in third place with a mark of 29.02m. She also placed fourth in the Shot Put with a throw of 9.98m and 10th in the Discus with a throw of 27.73m.
Daehla Smith posted a time of 13.45 in the 100m, finishing ninth in prelims. She made the cut for finals in the 200m, placing fourth with a personal-record time of 27.34. Smith also led a group of three competitors for Covenant in the Long Jump, finishing seventh with a jump of 4.55m.
Sophia Velleco just missed out on a podium finish in the 800m run, placing fourth with a time of 2:34.48.
Elie Berndt was in three events for Covenant, with her best showing coming in the Triple Jump with a mark of 9.64m to finish sixth. She also competed in the Long Jump (8th, 4.40m) and the Javelin Throw (22.94m).
Josephine Swinburnson earned sixth place in the 400m with a time of 1:07.84. She also raced in the 200m prelims, placing ninth with a time of 28.03. The field event she tried out was the Long Jump as she placed 11th with a mark of 4.16m.
Covenant's relay team of Smith, Swinburnson, Velleco, and Christensen earned two podium finishes. They placed second in the 4x100m with a time of 52.31 and third in the 4x400m with a time of 4:22.06.
MEN'S RESULTS:

Josiah Mellott came through with two wins for Covenant, starting out with a time of 4:11.92 in the 1500m to win that event. He also was the champion in the 800m with a school-record time of 1:57.25.
Covenant took up all three podium spots in the 1500m as Chandler Lines (2nd, 4:12.56) and Ethan Caswell (3rd, 4:13.06) finished right behind Mellott. Trey Faulk (7th, 4:18.21) and Jacob Howington (11th, 4:20.60) also ran in the 1500m.
Ethan Saiki was Covenant's final champion of the day, taking home the win in the 5,000m with a time of 15:45.97. The sophomore also came in fourth place in the 10,000m run with a time of 33:29.44.
The other runners for Covenant in the 5,000m were Mellott (4th, 16:22.76), Alex Burns (6th, 16:29.00), Jack Dupree (10th, 16:57.17), and Jacob Howington (11th, 16:59.97).
The other runners for Covenant in the 10,000m were Dupree (5th, 35:13.25), Burns (6th, 35:16.85), Samuel Harrelson (8th, 35:25.40), John Purtill (9th, 35:53.79), and Aidan DeVries (10th, 36:02.47).
Faulk finished fourth in the 800m with a time of 2:00.72. Caswell (6th, 2:04.74) and Lines (7th, 2:07.96) also made it out of prelims in the 800m.
Howington represented Covenant in the 3,000m Steeplechase, earning fifth place with a time of 10:51.00.
Andor Agustsson (15th, 2:10.540 and Atticus Tillery (21st, 2:36.27) raced in the 800m, but did not make it out of prelims.
The relay team of Faulk, Lines, Burns, and Mellott earned fifth place with a time of 3:40.94 in the 4x400m relay.
Cheney Byrd led Covenant in two of the three throwing events: Discus (6th, 37.68m), Hammer (5th, 39.60m), and Shot Put (10th, 10.54m).
Codey Parrish competed in these same three events, leading Covenant in the Shot Put with a mark of 11.53m to place sixth. His other results were: Discus (11th, 30.46m), and Hammer (12th, 27.22m).
