UTC Track And Field Finish Day 1 At SoCon Championship

Through the first day of competition at the Southern Conference Championships, the Mocs get three qualifiers for Day Two, an all-freshman selection and picked up points in a pair of finals.

Stella Henry reached the finals in the women’s long jump Monday and placed fifth with a personal record leap of 5.72 meters [18-9.25].

Also scoring for Chattanooga was Andrea Ellis in the 10,000 meter run. She placed eighth with a time of 38:45.66. Emma Thweatt was named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team in the 10,000 meter run.

Ryleigh Simmons posted the second fastest time Monday in the 100 meter preliminary round, winning her heat with a time of 11.98 to earn a spot in the final Tuesday. She also qualified for the 200 meter final, finishing ninth with a time of 25.22.

Also qualifying for Day Two is Sarah Unterholzner in the 400 meter Hurdles. She ran the race in a time of 1:05.25, placing eighth and earning a spot in Tuesday’s final.

Norah Haney will start Tuesday’s events with the conclusion of the heptathlon at 9:15 a.m. that includes the long jump, javelin and 800 meter.

Henry will get the field events going with the triple jump at 11:00 a.m. Chattanooga will start the running events off with the 4x100 meter relay just after 1:00 p.m. At 1:54 p.m. Simmons will run the 100 meter final. The 400 meter Hurdles final with Unterholzner is slated for a 2:21 p.m. start followed by Simmons in the 200 meter final at 2:35 p.m.

Leah Boyd, Andrea Ellis, Lesley Boyd, Brooke Tyll and Maddie Wheatcroft will to the line for the 5000 meter run at 2:45 and the Mocs will conclude with the 4x400 meter relay.
