Robert “Bob” O. Blasdell, of Hixson, Tennessee, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family, on Sunday, May 25, 2025.
He was born on April 22, 1938, in Evanston, Illinois. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a BA in Industrial Design and served in the Illinois National Guard.
During Bob’s work career, he worked as a display designer, sales manager, general manager, and regional manager for Container Corporation of America, Stone Container, and Smurfit Stone. Bob married his wife, Judy, in 1995 and was a wonderful husband for 30 years. He retired in 2000 and moved back to Chattanooga to enjoy retirement with Judy and family.
Bob was a long-distance runner for over 35 years. He ran several marathons, half marathons, and various other races over the years. He was on the Danville, VA, Raleigh, NC, and Chattanooga Track Clubs. He loved golf and enjoyed watching the Illini basketball team, Chicago Bears, and his “Cubbies”.
Bob was also a talented singer. He sang with the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera Chorus for a Christmas concert, the Scenic City Chorale, and The Roueche Chorale. He was a member of his church choir and uplifted seniors with Christian hymns at various nursing homes around the city.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ruth Blasdell; his brother, William “Bill” Blasdell; and two sisters, Dorothy Bolsenga and Judy Malick.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Blasdell of Hixson; his children, Mike (Heather) Blasdell of Riviera Beach, FL, Cindy (Jim) Pembroke of Marietta, Ga., and Cathy (Mike) Iconis of Atlanta; children by marriage, Kim (Mike) Mitchell of Hixson, and Kelley (Jimmy) Hutchins of Hixson; his sister, Louise Kuntzelman of Windsor, Co.; his brother, Grant (Alison) Blasdell of Rochester, IL; grandchildren, Sophie Iconis and Izzy Iconis of Atlanta; grandchildren by marriage, Emily (Tyler) Worley, Wes (Ashley) Hutchins, and Luke (Kirbee) Hutchins; all of the Chattanooga area; along with several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A visitation for Bob will be on Saturday, May 31, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home - North Chapel, 5401 Highway 153 Hixson, Tn. 37343. A graveside service will follow the visitation to Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Pastor Tyler Worley officiating and music by Cindye Valentine and Mike Mitchell, 5351 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
