Lee Women's Track Wins GSC Track and Field Championship

The Lee University Women’s Track & Field team posted 257 points to record the program’s eighth straight GSC Outdoor Track & Field Championship. Alabama Huntsville finished in second with 237 points, while Mississippi College was third at 139 points. The 20 point differential was the smallest since 2018 when Lee edged Alabama Huntsville 180.5 to 177.

The Lady Flames began the final day of competition with a seven point advantage. In the day’s first event, Lee and UAH canceled each other out with each team recording 17 points in the 10000-meter run.
Katie Krueger was the individual champion with a time of 37:26.88. UAH runners were the next to across the line with Lucy Barker in second (37:43.24) and Aylin Vega (38:09.99) third. Lee’s Lyndi Chapman placed fifth (40:12.67) with UAH’s Amelia Brady in sixth (40:35.75). The Lady Flames recorded the final two scoring spots as Kaylee Estridge (40:42.09) finished in seventh place and Karis Kelley (41:36.67) was eighth.

UAH won the 4x100-meter relay with a total time of 46.50 seconds. The Lee foursome of Jydia Faucette, Liz Lannom, Sydney White and Maddox Mayfield were second at 47.49 seconds.

Liezl Theron posted a new DII Provisional mark of 1.73 meters in winning the high jump. Aniya Johnson of UAH was second at 1.63 meters. Lannom finished in third place with a clearance of 1.60 meters. Although UAH added two more athletes at seventh and eighth, the Lady Flames doubled their lead to 10 points.

Gracie Waite added another individual title for Lee in the shot put. Waite placed first with a mark of 13.34 meters to beat Emily Wolf of Montevallo by 0.07 meters. Samara Brinks finished ninth with a throw of 11.12 meters. Once again Lee and UAH recorded the same number of points in an event.

The Lady Flames extended their lead to 37 after claiming the top two spots and had five of the first six finishers of the 1500-meter run. Estella Clemons (4:30.91) was first with Lily Hare (4:31.44) was second. Ana Patricia Campos (4:36.52), Katie Beam (4:42.32) and Abi Moore (4:46.70) were fourth through sixth, respectively.

Faucette covered 11.76 meters to win the triple jump. Four Chargers scored to cut the Lee lead down to 26.

Lannom added another championship after finishing the 100-meter hurdles in 14.08 seconds. Theron placed sixth (14.88), Ane Peasley (15.05) was seventh and Lily Brown (15.26) came in eighth to add six points to the team lead.

Waite was the lone Lee entry in the discus. Her top measurement of 39.84 meters was good for fourth place. UAH recorded third and seventh place finishers to cut three points off their deficit.

Mayfield and White added nine points to the Lee tally in the 400-meter dash. Mayfield placed third at 56.58 seconds and White finished sixth (59.42). In the 100-meter dash, Lannom finished in 12.03 seconds for third place and Faucette stopped the clock at 12.19 seconds for seventh. Janay Ryan (12.77) and Peasley (12.88) finished 11th and 12th, respectively. UAH collected nine points in the event to move back within 24 points of Lee.

Lee put three runners among the first four finishers of the 800-meter run to push their lead to 36 with four events remaining. Hare completed the two laps in 2:11.44 to claim first place. Clemons was just 0.36 seconds behind to claim second place (2:11.80). Beam’s time of 2:15.85 put her in fourth place.

Faucette added a second place finish to her day with a time of 1:03.84 in the 400-meter hurdles. Brown was sixth at 1:07.05 and Ashlyn Iliff finished seventh (1:07.21).

Lannom and Faucette added seven points in the 200-meter dash with Lannom placing third with a time of 24.69 seconds and Faucette crossing the line in eighth place (26.88). UAH cut the margin from 38 to 30 with just two events left.

The Chargers were first in the 4x400-meter relay and the Lady Flames (White, Lannom, Clemons and Mayfield) placed third (4:00.80) to shrink the Lee advantage to 26 with the javelin throw left.

UAH had four entries in the javelin to Lee’s three. Olivia Davidson led the Lady Flames with a third place finish for six points. Brinks was 11th with a throw of 29.59 meters and White was 12th with a mark of 25.59 meters. UAH had the event winner and a seventh-place finisher to outscore Lee by six in the final event to make the final margin 20 points in favor of the home team.

During the awards ceremony following completion of today’s competition, Lannom was named the Most Outstanding Freshman Performer, Most Outstanding Track Performer and Most Outstanding Overall Performer for the 2025 GSC Outdoor Championships.

The Lady Flames combined to place 11 team members on the All-Conference First Team and seven more on the All-Conference Second Team as a result of finishing either first or second in an event. Earning a spot on the All-Conference First Team were: Lannom (100 hurdles), White (heptathlon), Hare (800), Clemons (1500), Iliff (steeplechase), Campos (5000), Krueger (10000), Theron (high jump), Brynn Depinet (pole vault), Waite (shot put) and Faucette (triple jump).

Faucette (400 hurdles), Clemons (800) and Hare (1500) were individual All-Conference Second Team, while Faucette, Lannom, White and Mayfield earned second team honors as part of the 4x100 relay team.
