Babs Bailey
Whitfield County Clerk of Superior Court Babs Bailey has been awarded the 2024 Stetson F. Bennett Superior Court Clerk of the Year Award for Georgia’s Judicial District 7. Chosen by her peers, Ms. Bailey is one of only eight clerks statewide to receive this distinguished recognition, which honors outstanding leadership and service in Georgia’s judicial system.
The Stetson F. Bennett Award was established in 1985 in honor of longtime Clerk of Court Stetson F. Bennett Jr., a respected figure in Georgia’s legal community. The award recognizes Clerks of Superior Court who exemplify professionalism, integrity, and dedication to public service.
MS. Bailey, who was first elected Clerk of Superior Court in 2020 and re-elected in 2024, brings decades of legal and courtroom experience to the role. Before running for office, she spent 36 years working with local attorneys as a paralegal and office manager, then joined the Clerk’s Office in 2017 as part of the Criminal Division. She officially took office in January 2021.
As Clerk, Ms. Bailey oversees the preservation and accessibility of Whitfield County’s civil, criminal, and real estate records. She also plays a key role in the jury selection process, facilitating the participation of thousands of citizens annually in Superior Court proceedings. Her responsibilities include maintaining coordination between judicial agencies and representing one of the four Constitutional Officers of Whitfield County, alongside the Sheriff, Tax Commissioner, and Probate Judge.
“I feel truly honored to have been chosen by my fellow Clerks to receive this leadership award,” Ms. Bailey said. “It takes all 159 Clerks of Court and our hardworking staff to keep Georgia’s Clerk offices running smoothly and efficiently. I’m proud to serve Whitfield County, and my motto remains: Stronger Together – Better Together.”
Ms. Bailey continues to maintain strong working relationships with the Superior Court Judges, District Attorney, Public Defender, Sheriff’s Office, and all county departments. She also meets regularly with the other Constitutional Officers to address local matters and improve services for Whitfield County residents.
